Cabinet Minister, Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar has condemned the manner which ex-HNLC leader, Cherishterfield Thangkhiew was killed during a police raid and hoped that the judicial inquiry comes up with a fair judgement.
Tongkhar made the statement during a meeting with leaders of the group, the ‘Ka Sur na Shaphang Shathie Sepngi jong ka Ri Khasi’ in Mawkyrwat today. He assured the group that he would take up their demand to suspend police officers with the government.
Terming the incident “shocking” Tongkhar said that the August 13 incident is the wakeup call for the indigenous people of the State to remain united.
He said the MDA government is not sitting idle and believes that it will give a satisfactory response to the demand of the public.
Meanwhile leaders of the ‘Sur na Shaphang Shathie Sepngi jong ka Ri Khasi’ reiterated that peace will not return if a fair inquiry is not conducted into the “fake encounter” of the ex-militant leader. They said police officers should be suspended if an inquiry should be impartial.
The group also demanded Home Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui to come clean on the incident because they said that the public no longer trusts the government.
