Charred bodies of three youths from Goalpara were found on Wednesday along with the vehicle near Wageasi, bordering Meghalaya’s North Garo Hills.
Sources said that the incident took place last night.
Out of the three, two have been identified as Jomor Ali and Noor Mohammad Assam.
The youths were traveling from Shallang with their vehicle registration number AS 01 EV 5247 (Swift dzire) towards Dudhnoi and on reaching in between Rogu Alda and Rongmil (areas bordering East Garo Hills and North Garo Hills) they were abducted by unknown miscreants.
Sources said their vehicle was hijacked. The third body of another young man is yet to be identified.
Deputy Commissioner Vibhor Agarwal informed that investigation is currently underway but no suspects as yet. A police team and magistrates are currently on the spot.
“We can’t come to a conclusion if it’s election related or whether militants involved. The matter came to light after the police were informed about the kidnapping and that they were abducted. The search began last night and it was in the morning that the Charred bodies were recovered. Due to the situation of the bodies it is very difficult for the concerned department to easily identify the bodies,” Agarwal said.
