A charge sheet against former Director General of Police (DGP) Lajja Ram Bishnoi under the provisions of Motor Vehicle Act has been forwarded by police to the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate by the police.
This was stated by Additional Advocate General N D Chullai during hearing of a criminal petition filed by Bishnoi in the Meghalaya High Court today.
According to Chullai, the investigation of the matter has been completed and a charge-sheet has been prepared and forwarded to the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate by the investigating authority.
Chullai also told the court that as per the charge-sheet, only a case under the provision of Motor Vehicles Act has been made out against Bishnoi.
“No other allegation could be substantiated as there was no sufficient evidence,” Chullai added.
Amit Goyal, the lawyer for Bishnoi however told the High Court that he has no information of filing of charge-sheet in the matter and he does not have a copy of the charge sheet.
Justice B Bhattacharjee who heard the matter directed the State government to furnish a copy of the charge-sheet to Bishnoi so that he gets the opportunity to go through the same before the matter is taken up for final disposal. The next hearing on the case will be held on November 12.
It may be mentioned that Bishnoi moved the High Court challenging the FIR lodged by suspended police officer Gabriel K. Iangrai.
The FIR against Bishnoi was lodged on May 9 by former Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Meghalaya Police, Gabriel K. Iangrai, alleging the misuse and tampering of a vehicle registration number plate.
On the basis of the FIR, a case was registered under sections 409/467/471/120 B IPC read with section 792 of Motor Vehicle Act at Sadar Police station.
In the FIR, Iangrai accused Bishnoi of using a fake number plate on the multi-utility van that he had been using as his official vehicle.
Iangrai said the former DGP had been using a KIA Carnival Limousine with a registration number, ML-02-A-0001, as his official vehicle.
