Meghalaya is facing a financial crunch, but Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma is grateful for the financial help received from the Centre, which has alleviated the situation to some degree.
Today Sangma cited policy matters regarding debt and the devolution of taxes and an enhancement by the 15th Finance Commission of funds transferred by the central government to Meghalaya as having helped the financial condition of the state.
Sangma also said that, more importantly, the state was able to get resources from centrally sponsored schemes, finance from the centre and externally aided projects, which have also helped the state.
“But having said that, it is always difficult when it comes to the Covid situation that we are facing and therefore it has not been easy but we have been able to continue with our commitments in terms of the committed liabilities and also the projects that we had listed out. We are very positive that we will be able to take them up,” he said.
