Leader of Opposition Dr. Mukul Sangma on Friday visited Lower Babupara in Tura to inspect the site of the dismantled World War I Cenotaph.
During the inspection, Dr. Sangma was accompanied by various stakeholders.
Speaking to reporters he said the government has to take everybody on board. “The whole responsibility should revolve around taking into consideration the sentiments of the people as a whole,” he said.
Dr. Sangma said that what is considered as not appropriate must be corrected and what is wrong must be taken cognisance of. He said during the meeting at the site, the district administration briefed those present of the intent of the government as far as demolition of the century old structure is concerned.
Stating that the matter is highly sensitive which authorities must take it seriously he added, “I have no reason to doubt that the wrongs that have been done must be corrected.”
The Tura monument to the Garo Labour Corps that served in the First World War was demolished and critics said that stakeholders had not been taken into confidence.
