A special publicity programme under the theme ‘Viksit Bharat’ was held today at Nongpyndeng in West Khasi Hills district under the aegis of Central Bureau of Communication (CBC) Shillong.
More than 50 participants, including parents, children, and youth, gathered to engage in discussions on health, well-being, and the development of their community. The event, aimed at promoting a holistic approach to development, was designed to encourage community participation and inspire the younger generation to actively contribute to the nation’s growth.
A key session at the event was presented by Mangkara, a community nurse, who spoke on the vital topic of adolescent health. His talk focused on both physical and mental well-being, offering valuable insights to the youth present. He stressed the importance of maintaining a balanced lifestyle, which includes regular physical activity, proper nutrition, and sufficient sleep.
Speaking on mental health, he urged the youth to be mindful of stress, anxiety, and feelings of loneliness, which are common challenges faced by adolescents today. He encouraged them to reach out to caregivers, family, or trusted friends for support if they ever felt overwhelmed. He also emphasized the dangers of narcotic substances and the detrimental effects of excessive phone usage, advising the youth to avoid becoming dependent on technology and instead focus on building healthy habits.
To further engage the community, a quiz competition was also held. The three winners were Unita Rongrin, Manesh Mawblei and Shimtihun Dkhar.
Village elders and youth leaders also planted trees as part of the programme.
