The Catholic Association of Shillong has condoled the demise of Fr Stan Swamy and remembered him as a gentle, honest and leader of the people who stood for peace and justice.
Remembering Swamy as a human rights activist who fought for the rights of the poor, oppressed and the underprivileged, the association said, “He dared questioned the non-implementation of the Vth Schedule of the Constitution that required the formation of a Tribes Advisory Council (TAC), the Forest Rights Act. 2006, the Land Acquisition Act, 2013 of the Jharkhand Government and dared oppose many legislations which impoverished the poor Adivasis and tribal communities.”
