The Federation of All School Teachers of Meghalaya (FASTOM) has suggested the Education department to categorize all adhoc schools (primary to the higher secondary level) as deficit schools or raise the dearness allowance so that teachers do not hit the streets.
This suggestion was made by the teacher’s federation during their meeting with Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui recently.
FASTOM president, Kenneth Shadap said, “We have put this suggestion before the Education Minister to do the categorisation or raise the basic pay and dearness allowance of teachers.”
He also informed that at the meeting with Rymbui it also suggested that all categories of schools like Adhoc, Improvement, Deficit pattern, Deficit should be abolished to bring uniformity.
“There are 1857 adhoc schools from primary up to higher secondary level with 7082 teachers and it won’t be difficult for the government to change it,” Shadap said.
He said that the Education Minister informed that the government does not have funds though it wished to do so.
“If the government can pay well it will solve the difficulties of the teachers and they can concentrate on teaching,” the president said.
