Shillong, Mar 28: A capacity building programme for farmers of Jaintia Hills region was conducted by the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Community and Skill Development Center, Wahiajer.
The programme, ‘Skill Enhancement for Horticultural Development and Sustainability for Farmers of NEH Region,’ was held in collaboration with the Department of Horticulture, NEHU Tura Campus, and sponsored by ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru.
Over 300 took part in the programme, including farmers, students, and others. Renowned technical experts led the training sessions, focusing on essential horticultural farming techniques aimed at promoting health and wellness, particularly among youth and women.
The valedictory function was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar. During his speech, he highlighted the crucial role of farmers in the nation’s progress and encouraged participants to harness the knowledge gained to embark on entrepreneurial ventures.
Principal Scientist and Nodal Officer at ICAR Dr. T. Sakthivel proposed establishing a hub for horticultural development in partnership with NEHU-DDUCC.
