A national campaign and farmers fair on Kisan Bhagidari Prathmikta Hamari and Jal Shakti Abhiyan under ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ was organised by the KVK, Ri-Bhoi in collaboration with ATMA Ri Bhoi district today attended by about 150 farmers from seven villages in the district.
An exhibition was also set up on the occasion with different SHG groups and local farmers produce which are grown organically from different villages of the district.
KVK principal scientist and head Dr Mokidul Islam welcomed the farmers and highlighted the purpose and importance of the programme. He stressed on Atmanirbhar Bharat with different government schemes for the benefit of farmers which make self-reliant and doubling farmers income.
ATARI-ICAR director incharge, Dr. A. K. Singha spoke about popularising different technologies from ICAR for overall development of the State while director incharge, Dr Bijoya Bhattacharya, PS, Division of Crop Science, ICAR Research Complex, Umiam elaborated on the importance of scientific agriculture and emphasized on working hand to hand with various SHG’s for effective functioning of programmes.
District Agriculture Officer and project director in charge ATMA, D. Lyngdoh encouraged farmers to cultivate high yield variety of crops to double their income.
During the programme, a young progressive farmer Khrawbok Syngkli of Pahamsyiem village was felicitated with cash award for his contribution and innovative ideas for adoption of scientific agriculture and allied sectors for being an encouragement to other fellow farmers.
An online programme was also conducted at the same venue where union agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar along union minister of state for agriculture Kailash Choudhary launched the campaign in the presence of farmers connected through 731 KVKs in the country
A farmer-scientist interaction was also organised to clear doubts on scientific technologies.
