The Jaiñtia Students Movement (JSM) has called on the state government to revive the post of Assistant Sub-Inspector in the Meghalaya Police in order to improve the service and give constables an avenue for promotion.
In a press release today, the JSM said that police outposts and beat houses are unable to properly conduct their duties because of a shortage of Sub-Inspectors. The abolishment of the grade of Assistant Sub-Inspector years ago has meant that an SI will only have constable and head constables to assist him/her.
Many police personnel are stuck at the level of head constable even at retirement because they cannot make the jump to SI, the JSM said.
