Based on a post on social media that there is opposition by a Karbi group to campaigning by candidates for the upcoming Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) election in the Barato-Mukroh constituency, the Jaintia Students Movement (JSM) has urged for peace and security in the border area.
It was reported that National People’s Party (NPP) candidate Aiborlang Shadap and Congress Party candidate Banikas Laban were hindered from campaigning in the border area.
This prompted the JSM to urge the Karbi people and Karbi Students Association to work together with the Jaintia people and JSM to maintain peace and security in the constituency.
The JSM also demanded that there should be respect for the democratic rights to choose candidates. Meanwhile, the Hynñiewtrep Border Dispute Redressal Forum (HBDRF) will be meeting the Deputy Commissioner of West Jaiñtia Hills on the matter tomorrow.
