An inter-state meeting was held between the Deputy Commissioner of East Jaiñtia Hills and his counterpart from Cachar ahead of Assam’s state elections.
The meeting was held in the forest inspection bungalow of Umkiang today between East Jaiñtia Hills DC E Kharmalki and Cachar DC Keerthi Jalli, along with other officials, including from the police.
The purpose of the meeting was to ensure that both states work jointly to halt the flow of illegal cash, alcohol and other products that could be used to influence the elections in the neighbouring state. Both sides pledged to work together in this regard.
Assam authorities will also hold similar meetings in the coming days with officials from Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland and Bangladesh.
