The state cabinet today sat to consider the implications of the Meghalaya High Court freeze on government recruitment because of the lack of a roster system.
The High Court last week ordered that all recruitment be stopped until such a system is put in place. The cabinet today discussed how to prepare its affidavit to the court.
There is more homework to be done and details to be added, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma told reporters afterwards. We will take it up again in the next few days.
The High Court described it as alarming that Meghalaya, even 50 years after achieving statehood, had not put in place a roster system to manage its job reservation policy.
Asked why a roster system had not been put in place for all these years, Sangma deflected the question and gave credit to his government for implementing one for job reservation for people with disabilities.
In July 2020, the cabinet approved a 100-point roster system to implement four percent reservation of government jobs for persons with benchmark disabilities in accordance with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016.
