The cabinet today approved the Meghalaya Mineral (Prevention of Illegal Mining, Transportation, Storage) Rules 2022.
Speaking to reporters, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said the rules are mandated as per Section 23 (C) of the central Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act to check transportation and issuance of transport challans, regulate the storage of minerals and to monitor illegal transportation.
The National Green Tribunal had directed the state government to frame rules as mandated by the act.
Meanwhile, the cabinet also approved the regularisation of some 3,635 employees working on an ad hoc basis for more than 15 years.
The cut-off date for such appointees is 2007.
He said such employees will be regularised from the date of the notification and they will be governed by all the rules and regulations that are applicable to government employees.
“A large number of people were earlier regularised as a one-time measure but a few missed out,” he added.
According to him, the state exchequer will not be burdened by this move as the ad hoc employees were already enjoying the same payscale and perks of their permanent colleagues.
