The first Cabinet of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA)-2.0 government led by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today approved a bill to formally repeal the Meghalaya Regulation of Gaming Act, 2021.
The cabinet also approved an amendment of the contingency fund bill 2023, an ordinance of which was approved by the cabinet earlier this year.
“We have now brought both the ordinances in the form of bills which would be ratified in the upcoming budget session,” Sangma said after the cabinet meeting.
He informed that the assembly will resume on March 20 for the budget session.
The budget session of the Assembly will commence on March 20 and a full budget will be passed during the session.
Sangma said that it is healthy to complete the budget before March 31. He also informed that the Finance Department is ready with the full budget.
Stating that the State government will not go for a vote on account budget, Sangma said, “If we go for vote on account budget it will only be for the first quarter, and then we will have to meet again, and the full budget picture does not come out.”
Sangma said that the Finance Department has been working for the last many months to complete the budget exercise even before the Assembly elections were announced.
“The finance department is very much ready with a full budget,” he said.
The cabinet has also appointed ministers, Ampareen Lyngdoh, Marcuise N Marak and Paul Lyngdoh as spokespersons, apart from the Chief Minister.
