The State cabinet today approved the Meghalaya Minor Minerals Reclamation Find Management guidelines 2022.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said as per the High Court order the government had started a reclamation fund for the minor minerals in 2014 to to rectify the damages caused to forest and environment as a result of mining activities.
“The funds have been collected but the guidelines on how to use them had not been framed. Now that the framing has been done, we have approved it. After this, the utilisation of the funds through a governing body and an executive committee will be undertaken,” he said.
Sangma informed that the utilisation of the funds through a governing body headed by the Forest Minister and through an executive committee will be undertaken. He said different bodies and departments have been identified through which these funds will be released.
