The State cabinet today approved a mission to eliminate the menace of drugs and two policies, in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.
The drug reduction elimination & action mission (DREAM) approved by the cabinet is part of the state government’s endeavour to make Meghalaya a drugs-free state.
“In our endeavour towards drugs-free Meghalaya, the cabinet gave its approval to the drug reduction elimination and action mission (DREAM),” Sangma told reporters. He said the mission is to ensure all the aspects of substance abuse are taken up in structured and mission mode manner.
He added that all different departments will be taken into confidence and aspects of rehabilitation counselling, working with police department have been worked out in detail.
The cabinet also approved the Meghalaya Tourism Policy 2023. Sangma said the policy was last framed in 2011 and there is a need for a detailed adaptation to meet the current changes that has taken place in this sector.
“The tourism policy will give shape and structure to adapt to the necessary changes required to boost the sector and will also look into aspects of sustainability,” he said, adding to achieve the goals the government will need to focus on creating proper infrastructure like roads, public utilities, better circuits improve capacity promotion and safety of tourists.
To streamline the plan of action and organic certification of produce the cabinet also approved the Meghalaya State Organic & Farming Policy, 2023.
Sangma said the policy will “further our efforts towards organic farming in Meghalaya”.
