While the Mawryngkneng Block Congress Committee had earlier proposed the name of Highlander Kharmalki as the candidate for the by-poll from Mawryngkneng constituency, Norbert Marboh is another ticket aspirant for the contest.
The election committee of Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) which met here today however have not taken any decision.
Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Vincent H. Pala informed that the applicants have been screened by the Block Congress Committees as well as the by the District Congress Committees.
“Their names have been screened at different levels and at different point of time,” he said.
Pala also informed that the names were discussed and the party decided that those will be recommended to Delhi and the list will be declared by the AICC.
“In the meantime I have been asked by the committee to discuss with the two probable from Mawryngkneng. Hopefully by tomorrow or Monday Delhi will take a decision,” Pala said
According to the MPCC president the normal procedure was to send observers to the field but this time around due to the sudden announcement of the by-elections the party could not do so.
“Our candidates have 100 percent prospect. We are very confident we will win all the three seats,” Pala said.
When asked what will be the agenda of the Congress going into the bye-elections, the MPCC chief said that it’s for all to see the performance of the MDA government.
“Congress has been there and whether the people trust the party or not…so we have given them good candidates I think people know what to decide and what not to decide,” the MPCC president said.
The meeting was also attended leader of opposition Dr. Mukul Sangma, MLAs Charles Pyngrope and Ampareen Lyngdoh and Mahila president Joplin Scott Shylla.
