Due to the restrictions in inter-state movement the Khasi-Jaiñtia Pig Butchers Association has increased the price of pork.
“In an emergent meeting we decided to increase the rate of pork from Rs. 360 per kilogram to Rs. 380 per kilogram,” Andy Lyngdoh, general secretary of the association said.
Lyngdoh said that the association had to increase the prices since inter-state movement of pigs have been stopped since the lockdown.
He said that after the lockdown and with the African Swine Fever the butchers have to procure pigs locally.
Lyngdoh however said that the price of pigs in the State is Rs. 13000-14000, while pigs from outside the State costs Rs 12000.
They association however could not clearly commit, whenever the inter-state movement of pigs are allowed, the price would be brought down.
The association also informed that the State needs around 600 pigs a day but it can procure only 200.
