Amit Shah will have a busy two-day trip to Meghalaya, beginning on July 17, but there is still no word from his office on whether he will meet pro-ILP groups who want to lobby him for the implementation of the Inner Line Permit in the state.
The Union Home Minister will meet with the Chief Ministers of those North East states that have unresolved border issues, hold a meeting with the North Eastern Space Application Centre (NESAC), visit Sohra to inaugurate a tree plantation initiative and launch two or three other projects in East Khasi Hills.
His tentative schedule was revealed by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today. Sangma said that the Chief Secretaries and Directors General of Police of all the relevant North East states will also attend Shah’s meeting with the CMs.
The Meghalaya government has requested Shah’s office for space in his schedule to meet with various citizens groups, many of whom want to discuss the ILP with the visitor. So far, however, there has been no response to this.
