The Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya rescued 35 cattle on the international border in East Khasi Hills before they could be smuggled over into Bangladesh, a press release informed today.
The incident occurred yesterday when BSF personnel took action to save the cattle based on specific information. The animals had been tied up in a jungle area awaiting a chance to be illegally taken across the border.
Meanwhile, in a joint operation with Meghalaya police, the 1st Battalion BSF seized a “huge” quantity of sugar meant to be smuggled into Bangladesh through South Garo Hills.
The consignment weighed more than 9 tonnes and had been dumped at an abandoned house in the jungle near the border.
Both the cattle and sugar were handed over to police for further action.
