Foiling the attempt of smugglers, Border Security Force (BSF) personnel seized sarees worth Rs 22 lakh that a smuggler intended on transporting across the border into Bangladesh yesterday.
A vehicle loaded with the consignment was intercepted by jawans of the 4th Battalion in Pyrdiwah, East Khasi Hills.
When the BSF signaled the vehicle to stop, the driver fled towards the forested area leaving the vehicle in the middle of the road.
The seized items and vehicle were handed over to customs officials in Pynursla for further action.
Last year the border force seized items of clothing worth in excess of Rs 1.2 crore along the international border, the BSF said in a press release today.
