Acting on specific information from a reliable source, the Border Security Force and state police launched a joint operation wherein a large cache of ammunition was recovered from Kalapahar in South West Khasi Hills today morning.
During the operation, a search was conducted along a stream that flows from India to Bangladesh. The search party succeeded in detecting an abandoned ammunition dump in a large cave.
The ammunition was wrapped in plastic. On inspecting the contents, the authorities found 92 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, 129 7.62mm rounds and 160 9mm rounds for a total of 381 rounds.
