The Border Security Force (BSF) recovered 26 cattle from the border between East Khasi Hills and West Jaintia Hills districts meant to be smuggled to Bangladesh.
The seizure was made yesterday and BSF said that the cattle were brought clandestinely to the border area through the forest by miscreants until they were intercepted.
“BSF Meghalaya seized 1491 cattle heads since January 2022. Increase in demand for cattle in Bangladesh may be attributed to upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr,” the BSF said in a statement.
The seized cattle were handed over to concerned police outpost for further disposal.
