Shillong, Oct 13: The Border Security Force (BSF) thwarted a cattle smuggling attempt by rescuing 27 oxen and buffaloes from the international border in the last 24 hours, a press release said today.
Smugglers were attempting to move the animals over the border in parts of West Jaintia Hills and East Khasi Hills.
The cattle were recovered after the 4th Battalion of the BSF received specific information regarding the attempt to smuggle them. The animals had been concealed in an area of jungle near the border. They were handed over to the concerned police station for further action.
