The Border Security Force (BSF), Meghalaya frontier recovered arms and ammunition believed to have been hidden by the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) near a forest at Chegnigre village under Rongra Police Station in South Garo Hills district.
The recovery was made on Thursday which included a revolver (USA made 0.32 mm caliber), 50 numbers of 7.62 mm rounds and four iron magazine (supposed to be AK SVD Airsoft Sniper Rifles).
A press release from the BSF said that the recovery was made possible during a search operation conducted the area following a tip off.
“The GNLA has hidden arms at various places in Garo Hills which they use mainly for extortion purpose and other illegal activities. The seized revolver, ammunition and magazine were handed over to police in Rongra for further necessary action,” the BSF said.
BSF IG Hardeep Singh said, “Our network is at place to unearth such more cache of arms and ammunition which are hidden by banned outfits in remote jungle areas and we hope that in future more such successful operation will be conducted.”
