BSF Meghalaya arrested a driver for transporting sugar meant to be smuggled into Bangladesh.
According to the BSF, the driver of truck number ML 04 C 5133 was stopped at a mobile check post while travelling along Lumshnong-Sonapur road towards Lailong-Harai road in East Jaiñtia Hills district.
During search it was discovered that the sugar bags were concealed under a layer of sand and transported under the guise of the National Buildings Construction Corporation goods carrier, the BSF said.
The driver was apprehended as he failed to produce valid documents with regards to the consignment and was handed over to police in Umkiang.
In a separate operation, the BSF also intercepted and confiscated various smuggled miscellaneous items valued at over Rs 28 lakhs.
