The Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended six Indian nationals near Dawki, West Jaiñtia Hills, involved in cattle smuggling and seized 53 cattle in multiple operations, it announced today.
The BSF linked the smuggling of cattle to Bangladesh with the drugs trade and said that proceeds from the activity are funding militant groups.
Interrogation of the arrested persons revealed that the cattle were transported from Khanapara, Assam, and comprised breeds that are not generally found in the state.
“To tackle this menace the BSF has again urged the state authorities to conduct joint operations in these areas and also place checkpoints at suitable locations,” the BSF said in a release.
