The Border Security Force (BSF) defeated Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) 3-0 in a volleyball match played at Bahadur, 28 Bn BSF in South West Garo Hills district today.
The ‘Maitri’ match between the two border guarding forces was held to celebrate Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav and to foster friendly relations between the two neighbouring countries.
About 500 locals from the border area participated and cheered for both the teams.
BSF Meghalaya Frontier Inspector General, Inderjit Singh Rana said that sports being a universal culture, is an important means of combining different people in the world. “It is an activity that contributes to world peace. In fact sport is the most noble of the wars on international platforms because it is a war of peace,” he said.
The theme behind holding such friendly matches is to infuse a sense of patriotism and national integration in the minds of the youths and also to enhance the already existing peaceful and friendly atmosphere between the BSF and BGB, he said.
