Broomstick farmers from Mawkynrew village have expressed delight at increased rates they can charge for their produce.
Farmers now get Rs 50 per kilogramme, president of the Mawkynrew Broomstick Association, B Nongspung, told reporters today, which is an improvement on the previous rate and which allows farmers dependent on the crop to earn something approaching a living.
However, the association would like to see an even higher rate, perhaps Rs 100 per kilo.
The Mawkynrew farmers lauded their MLA, Banteidor Lyngdoh, Agriculture Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh and the Chief Minister for improving the price they get for the broomstick.
