Several public vehicles were stranded on the road because of a broken down coal truck along the Umrit-Umling Road in Ri-Bhoi today.
It is suspected that trucks use this route to avoid detection as they are transporting illegally-sourced coal.
A source informed that the broken down truck bore a licence plate reading ML 06 4248.
Besides clogging up the roads, locals have also blamed these heavily-laden coal trucks for causing damage to the road surface, which is not strong enough to bare the load.
