The FKJGP has expressed dismay over the delay of the State government in gathering needed documents to prove Meghalaya’s claim over its land from Assam.
The organisation during its two-day visit to the border villages that concluded yesterday in West Khasi Hills, found that most of the traditional heads and villagers of Tynghor and Langpih located were verbally asked by government officials to produce the land documents just three days back.
“The fact that the BDOs have just three weeks back asked people in the border areas of Meghalaya to prepare their documents for the boundary talks with Assam proves the successive governments in Meghalaya have no responsibilities and taken things for granted all these years and done nothing to resolve the boundary differences with Assam for almost 50 years,” Cary Oscar Kharmutee, Spokesperson, FKJGP West Khasi Hills District said.
Kharmutee said that the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council, which the custodian of the Himas and the Dorbar Shnongs should convene an emergency meeting with all the traditional heads on the issue.
The FKJGP also criticise Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma for accusing Meghalaya of encroachment. “The land documents available with the Syiems and Sirdarship of various Himas situated along the Meghalaya-Assam border bears testimony that we (Meghalaya) never encroached into Assam and neither will we allow it to encroach upon our lands,” Kharmutee said.
He also called upon the traditional heads and peoples especially those residing in disputed areas to stay united and stand against any outside power trying to encroach into their lands.
The FKJGP also said that the villages in West Khasi Hills District located in the border areas with Assam that falls under Hima Rambrai Syiemship include Kyrshai and Nongspung Dalbari and Ukiem, Dariphang, Dalidonga, Borkhuli, Mawiamsyiem, Kamphaduli, Talimara, that falls under hima Nongmynsaw Syiemship while villages in Langpih that falls under Jyrngam Sirdarship includes Lejadubi, Salpara, Rangalpara, Athiabari.
