The Hynñiewtrep Border Dispute Redressal Forum (HBDRF) has appealed to the West Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner to bolster security measures in Block 1 during the district council elections.
The Khasi and Jaintia Hills autonomous district council elections will go to polls on February 21.
The border forum said that during the past elections in Meghalaya there have been reported threats or intimidation to the Khasis living along the inter-state border with Assam during polling and therefore the district administration should ensure the safety of voters.
The forum has urged the Deputy Commissioner to talk to his counterpart in West Karbi Anglong to ensure that voters are not obstructed during the election, to maintain peace and tranquility and to prevent any attempts to undermine the electoral process.
