Chief Minister Conrad Sangma is not in favour of holding a special session of the Assembly to discuss the border talks and hoped for resolution of the dispute with Assam.
Speaking to the media today, Sangma said that the government has already held discussions with stakeholders and various political parties and a one-day Assembly session would be incongruous to the border negotiations.
The Assam government has also not chosen the Assembly session route, though it plans to hold an all-party meeting tomorrow to discuss the subject.
Meghalaya is hoping that the dispute in six areas of difference between the two states can be resolved by January 21, the 50th anniversary of Meghalaya statehood. It would be a feather in Sangma’s cap if successful and would come just a year before state elections.
Both sides are positive that a resolution can be found by that day and Sangma described the talks as a “continuous process” and declined to elaborate on what was discussed between the two sides.
