KHADC Deputy Chief Executive Member Pynshngain N. Syiem today said that the size of the remaining five areas of differences between Meghalaya and Assam in Khasi Hills to be settled in the second phase of the boundary dispute talk is approximately 2078.01 square kilometres.
Syiem was replying to queries on the last day of the budget session of KHADC here. He also said that the executive committee would soon call a meeting of all MDCs to discuss the matter.
Giving a break-up of the areas of dispute, Syiem said that 298.07 square kilometer is in Langpih of West Khasi Hills, 147.83 square kilometers in Borduar of Ri-Bhoi, 137.51 square kilometer in Nongwah-Mawtamur area, 484.72 square kilometer in Desh Doomreah area, and 1,009.88 square kilometer in Block II.
He said that the KHADEC will also see that the State government takes the council into confidence before signing the boundary agreement in the second phase involving these areas.
“The KHADC is one of the members of the regional committee whose role is to produce the historical facts of Himas and villages in these areas,” he added.
To a query on the process of demarcation on the areas resolved under the first phase of boundary agreement, Syiem said that this is a matter decided between the state governments of Meghalaya and Assam and is outside the ambit of the KHADC.
