BookMyShow’s corporate social responsibility initiative, dubbed BookAChange, is offering 500 music scholarships for underprivileged artists in India, including to those in Meghalaya.
Originally launched as BookASmile in 2014 by BookMyShow, the initiative has now evolved into BookAChange, carrying a new vision to democratise access to music and the performing arts for individuals and communities from marginalised backgrounds in Meghalaya and across India, it said in a recent press release. BookAChange aims to inspire and nurture the next generation of pioneers in music and the performing arts.
Meghalaya is known for its rich musical heritage and serves as a key focus area for BookAChange. Beyond cultivating musical and performance skills, the initiative emphasises holistic development, fostering emotional, social and intellectual growth among its beneficiaries. This approach aims to nurture qualities such as responsibility, self-esteem, empathy, purpose and resilience, empowering well-rounded individuals to make a meaningful impact on the world, the release added.
The music scholarships are to support talented individuals from underprivileged backgrounds across India. These scholarships will support students and street artists pursuing music education and music business studies at accredited institutions. This includes diverse fields such as Instrumental Music, Vocals, Audio Production, Music Business and Songwriting. Financial assistance will be provided to students from marginalised communities, with applications now open for the BookAChange Music Scholarships.
The general public can contribute to this cause, with a percentage of every ticket purchased through BookMyShow going to support BookAChange. Additionally, direct contributions are welcomed to further amplify the initiative’s impact.
Speaking about the launch, Farzana Cama Balpande, head of BookAChange, said, “BookAChange marks the beginning of a new chapter in our commitment to making a difference through the arts. We aim to amplify our impact by nurturing dreams, bridging gaps and creating inclusive access so that everyone has the opportunity to flourish. Our mission is to democratise access to music and performing arts, empower marginalised individuals and communities and inspire the next generation of industry trailblazers. Our journey ahead is not just about the arts; it’s about inspiration, collaboration and a relentless pursuit of a brighter world for all.”
