Shillong, Jan 31: ‘The Khasis in the Liberation of Bangladesh’, a book by Daniel Stone Lyngdoh Nonglait, was launched in Dhaka, highlighting Khasi freedom fighters and martyrs who contributed to Bangladesh’s independence.
The event was attended by Sanjeeb Drong, Indigenous Peoples’ Forum, Andrew Joel Sholamar, and human rights activist Trijinad Chakma.
Drong stressed documenting indigenous people’s roles in the Liberation War.
The writer, Daniel Lyngdoh, said the book resulted from three years of research in Khasi villages in Bangladesh and Kolkata archives. He noted mainstream records often overlook indigenous contributions. The research was funded by India’s Department of Arts and Culture.
