The District Rural Development Agency has issued an order that requires the office of the Block Development Officer, Saipung to function on every Wednesday and Friday of the week.
This comes after the Synjuk Ki Waheh Shnong, Ri Jaiñtia raised objections that the Saipung C&RD Block, which was carved out of the Khliehriat block in April, 2001, was shifted to Latyrke village which is about 41 km away even as infrastructure at Saipung was left abandoned in 2016.
“All officers and staff dealing with different schemes in their respective circles nearest or within the block headquarter are instructed to perform their official duties accordingly from Saipung during these two days. The rest of the days will be at the camp office at Latyrke,” the order said, adding, the officers and staff dealing with different schemes in their respective circles nearest or within the camp office of the BDO Saipung at Latyrke are to function normally from Monday to Friday.
The BDO has been instructed to monitor and ensure the functioning of the block office at Saipung and the camp office at Latyrke and to submit a report to the Deputy Commissioner and Chairman DRDA on a weekly basis.
Meanwhile, the office of the Community and Rural Development Block that was inaugurated at Wapung in December last year will function once a week in Lumshnong.
“In the interest of public services and for the smooth and effective implementation of different schemes of the government the office of the Block Development Officer Wapung C&RD Block shall function once in every market day of the week at Lumshnong and the rest of the days at Wapung,” the order said.
The order said that this will be in consultation with the Waheh Shnong/Headman Lumshnong village.
