Former spokesperson of the state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Gregory Shullai, today said that with regards to the saffron party in Meghalaya, there is a desperate need for a core committee that can take the outfit forward.
“The party must make a better version of itself. The goal must be to surpass what it is. It has surpassed what it was, at least that is what some party members say, now it must surpass what it is,” he said.
He said that the “great problem” the BJP faces in Khasi-Jaintia Hills is that it suffers from a lack of credibility among the people.
“No more can party members place the blame on the anti-Christian card. That is a dead and buried issue now. There is no visible excuse they can place a finger on and that leaves the party with the embarrassment of blaming the man in the mirror. Party members know what they want the party to become,” he added.
With elections due in the two autonomous district councils covering Khasi-Jaintia Hills, the BJP needs to start its campaign in earnest. “The last minute is already upon the party and we’ve only just begun to stir up some dust. It’s not visible to many but it’s there. But we’re not giving in, so don’t give up on us,” Shullai said.
He also commented on the BJP’s win in the Haryana state election, the results of which were declared today. The saffron party won a third consecutive term in charge despite facing anti-incumbency and the unpopularity of its decisions relating to farm laws and the Agniveer recruitment policy for the armed forces.
