BJP State president Earnest Mawrie has said that the party is yet to take a decision on allotting party ticket for any candidates to contest the 2023 assembly elections.
His statement came a day after the resignation of BJP Shillong city general secretary, Rocky Hek who had stated that the party had zeroed down on a candidate to contest from North Shillong constituency, a seat where he plans to contest.
Rocky, a nephew of five-time sitting MLA of Pynthorumkhrah, AL Hek had announced his decision to contest from his uncle’s constituency.
“The BJP is a national party and we have procedures to follow before we decide on the party tickets. It is wrong for Rocky Hek to make such a statement,” he told Highland Post.
Mawrie said that the resignation of Rocky will not affect the prospects of AL Hek. He said it was his will and the BJP has never given him any assurance that he will be getting the party ticket to contest from the North Shillong constituency.
“The BJP don’t just give the party ticket to any aspirant but it has to go through procedures like a survey, then it goes to the central parliament board committee, etc,” he added.
Rocky quit the BJP yesterday and announced to contest from the Pynthorukhrah constituency on a National People’s Party (NPP) ticket. He stated that he did not get the recognition he deserves working with the saffron party for close to four years.
