The president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Mahila Morcha in Meghalaya, Judy Surong, today thanked all the women’s wing members who worked for the party during the recent election campaign.
Sarong also thanked the BJP’s central party figures, “for actively involving the Mahila Morcha in every sphere of the campaign, in terms of providing resources which enabled us to reach out to women of the state to create awareness about how central schemes have enriched and eased their lives.”
This comes after recent criticism from certain quarters in the state unit of the party that alleged that the central leaders gave no space to those from Meghalaya in planning for the election, which led to the BJP not improving on its total of two MLAs even after a huge electoral effort to capture more seats.
Surong also thanked all the BJP workers from outside the state, especially from Assam, who had been “instrumental” in the campaign. Their efforts, she added, have ensured that the Meghalaya women’s wing is “more organised and has the ability to do better in upcoming elections.”
Surong also said that it is encouraging that the party fielded six female candidates in the polls (none of whom won, it should be pointed out).
