Shillong, Mar 3: The state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is still undecided on its candidate for the Shillong Lok Sabha by-election, following the sudden demise of MP Ricky Syngkon last month.
Pynthorumkhrah MLA Alexander Laloo Hek, one of the party’s two MLAs, said that the BJP is still discussing whether to field a candidate or not, with multiple aspirants vying for the ticket. A meeting will be held soon to decide on the matter.
The BJP did not contest the Shillong or Tura seat in the 2024 parliamentary election, instead opting to support its ally, the National People’s Party (NPP). However, the NPP lost its hold on Tura, which went to the Congress Party, while the Shillong seat went from the Congress to Syngkon and the Voice of the People Party (VPP).
