The BJP in Meghalaya plans to withdraw its support from the NPP-led MDA government if proof of alleged scams and illegalities comes into their hand.
BJP, Meghalaya in-charge, Chuba Ao said the party will take a call within a month time.
Ao told reporters in Shillong that the party is trying to get all the documents of the various scams and illegalities against the government. “We have instructed our people to collect evidence. After that we will come to know if the NPP is corrupt or not,” he said.
“Talks are on at all levels of the party including the central leadership and the decision will be arrived at within a month,” he said.
He asserted that the BJP has zero tolerance against corruption and they will substantiate the allegations with all the documents.
The BJP leader also expressed confidence that nobody will be able to form a government without the saffron party in Meghalaya, when asked about an alliance with the NPP.
It may be mentioned that the NPP had fought the 2018 assembly polls in Meghalaya alone. However, the party, which came second to Congress, entered into an alliance with the BJP to form government in the state.
With two legislators, the BJP is a minor ally in the NPP-led government in Meghalaya since 2018.
On the internal rift in the party, Ao stated the party as a whole stands united. He also silenced the demand from few quarters for a change in the party leadership by stating that Ernest Mawrie will complete his full term as the state president.
The BJP in-charge also mentioned that the party has its strategy in place for the 2023 Assembly polls and will work on it to be successful.
