Shillong, Jun 30: BJP leader and Health Minister A L Hek today said that his party would soon send a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the need to expedite the proposed peace talks with the proscribed Hynñiewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC).
Hek said that on June 26 the issue was discussed in a party meeting and it was decided that the party would pursue this matter seriously.
“We welcome the proposal for a peace talk with the HNLC and we want peace in our State,” Hek said.
Hek informed that he had also discussed the matter with Chief Minister Conrad Sangma who stressed that this should move forward and it is the Centre that would take a final decision on this.
When asked about the grounds for holding talks with the HNLC, Hek could not specify saying, “We want peace talks to happen so that there is peace in our State.”
Apart from Union Home Minister, Hek said that the State BJP would also send a letter to BJP national president, J P Nadda on this issue.
