The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has picked its candidate for the Mawhati seat at next year’s state elections.
Evarist Myrsing, an educationist, will be running for the saffron outfit.
His candidature was announced at a meeting of the BJP held yesterday in Tyrso village.
Myrsing was welcomed into the party by state BJP president Ernest Mawrie, Laban MLA and cabinet minister Sanbor Shullai and other party leaders.
More than a thousand people from Mawhati constituency also attended the meeting.
Addressing the meeting, Myrsing, a Mawhati native, said that he wanted to bring a positive change for the people of Mawhati and he believes that only the BJP will be able to bring about a change as the party is in charge at the Centre and it is from the federal government that most development projects come.
He also denied that the BJP is against religious minorities, a charge frequently hurled against the party which is based on Hindutva.
