Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Meghalaya chief spokesperson Mariahom Kharkrang today thanked Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allocating Rs 1,241 crore for the enhancement and expansion of the Phulbari-Tura segment on National Highway 127B.
The existing road infrastructure along the Phulbari-Tura segment will be upgraded into a two-lane thoroughfare with paved shoulders and will facilitate smoother access to Tura and other parts of Meghalaya via NH-217 (Tura-Dalu) and Tura-Jengjal-Rongjeng-Nongstoin-Shillong, the BJP said in a press release today.
“Seventy-six years of independence and 50 years since attaining statehood, yet successive central governments refused to recognise Meghalaya’s pressing infrastructural needs,” Kharkrang said. “Government after government ignored connectivity requirements, which are vital for people to people interaction, as well as intra state trade and commerce.”
He also described the PM as a “friend of the North East since day one”, adding that now there is finally a central government that “understands the pressing needs of our state and works proactively to solve our issues.”
