The state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), represented by Bashailang Khongwir, met Union ministers to discuss the Eklavya Model Residential Schools, which are yet to kick off in Meghalaya.
Khongwir was accompanied by BJP national vice-president and the member in charge of Meghalaya, Chuba Ao, to meet Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Arjun Munda to discuss the implementation of the Eklavya schools, which have been sanctioned but are yet to begin. Also discussed was the ‘National Tribal Festival’.
Eklavya schools provide quality residential education to tribal children across India. The scheme was started in the 1990s under a previous BJP government to ensure tribal students get access to quality education in the remote tribal areas.
Later, the duo also called upon Union Minister of State for Finance, Bhagwat Kishanrao Karad, to discuss the financial situation of Meghalaya and the need for more land export sites in the state.
