The internal fissures in the State BJP have come out in the open.
Today, State BJP president Ernest Mawrie has issued a show-cause notice to ticket aspirant from North Shillong seat Michael Kharsyntiew for “deliberately distorting the stated position of the party in the media”.
The show-cause notice said that Kharsyntiew did not seek the permission of the party to call a press conference at the Shillong Press Club on September 22 where he appealed to J A Lyngdoh who has already resigned from the party to support him (Kharsyntiew) to ensure the BJP wins from North Shillong.
The show-cause notice also cited a disciplinary rule of the party which Kharsyntiew violated by “acting against or carrying on propaganda against any programme or decision of the party”.
The party also cited another rule that he violated by “taking a party dispute to any other agency outside the party including print and electronic media”.
Kharsyntiew was asked to reply to the show-cause notice within seven days from today as to why “appropriate disciplinary action” should not be taken against him for breach of party discipline.
It may be mentioned that at the press conference, Kharsyntiew had said there are rumours that the BJP ticket from North Shillong seat has been allotted to a particular candidate from the constituency and this has created a lot of confusion among the people of the constituency.
He also said that he has a better chance to get the ticket because the former MDC of the constituency Martamlin Pyrbot has decided not to contest the election but to extend full support to him.
Kharsyntiew’s press conference came a day after former IPS officer Mariahom Kharkrang was nominated as the State executive member of the BJP. Kharkrang is also a BJP ticket aspirant from North Shillong.
