With the next state elections just months away, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has a plan to strengthen its organisation at all levels, from the grassroots to the top leadership.
BJP state president Ernest Mawrie said today that the party’s central leaders will make a beeline for Meghalaya in the coming weeks and months to strengthen the party, develop plans and strategies and issue instructions to party workers.
The saffron party currently only has two MLAs in the 60-member state Assembly.
Mawrie recalled the recent visit of the BJP’s national general secretary, BL Santosh, who laid out a plan to strengthen the organisation at all levels.
So far, BJP mandals have been set up in 44 of the 60 constituencies, with 16 still to go.
On the subject of candidacy, Mawrie said that all BJP members are welcome to apply for a ticket but, ultimately, it will be the central leadership that will take the call.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the chairman of the central election committee and it will sit and decide the ticket. The state party will receive the applications, prepare and send them to the central election committee to decide,” Mawrie explained.
